Maui Math Circle Session 5 (Competition)
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, a group of middle and high school students from Baldwin High School, Iao Intermediate, Maui High School, and Maui Waena Intermediate volunteered at Pomaika'i Elementary School for the fifth session of the Maui Math Circle.
There were about 60 students from third, fourth, and fifth grade in attendance. The students took part in a competition with problems on topics that they had learned about in the previous four sessions, including money, probability, arithmetic sequences, perimeter and area, fractions and percentages, area and volume, statistics, counting, the distance formula, word problems, ratios and proportions, and Venn diagrams.
After the competition, the top three individual students in each grade level were awarded trophies. In 3rd grade, 1st place was awarded to Capri Nozaki, 2nd place went to Violet Kato, and 3rd place went to Jett Werner. In 4th grade, 1st place went to Huy Vu, 2nd place was awarded to Ayden Truong, and 3rd place went to Rexford Ang. In 5th grade, 1st place was awarded to Braeden James Asuncion, 2nd place went to Sophia Kato, and 3rd place was awarded to Alex Minnihan. Thank you and congratulations to all of the students who participated in this year's Maui Math Circle program!
