Seabury Students Lead Math Competition
On Saturday, March 26th, a group of Seabury Hall Middle School and Upper School students volunteered at Pu’u Kukui Elementary School for the sixth session of the Maui Math Circle to help students learn advanced math concepts and problem solving skills.
There were over 30 students in attendance who are enrolled in third, fourth, and fifth grade in schools throughout Maui. The students took part in a competition with problems on topics they had learned about in the previous five sessions, which included money, statistics, word problems, perimeter, area, volume, probability, counting, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, sequences, series, order of operations, measurements, distance, rate, time, and venn diagrams.
After the competition, the top three individual students in each grade level were awarded medals. In 3rd grade, 1st place was awarded to Kaci Amaral, 2nd place went to Kalani Yokote, and 3rd place went to Huaka’i Haramoto.
