Kaitlyn Takeno, President
Growing up, Kaitlyn's favorite subject in school was always math. She participated in MathCounts during middle school, and placed 3rd at the chapter level and 13th at the state level. She also participated in the AMC 8, placing 6th for the State of Hawaii in her 8th grade year. In her freshman and sophomore years, she competed in Maui Math League and finished 3rd individually in both years. As a sophomore, Kaitlyn joined Maui High's Science Bowl team and Maui High HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). In HOSA, she competed in Medical Math and placed first at the regional level and third at the state level, qualifying to attend the International Leadership Conference in Orlando. Now a junior at Maui High School, Kaitlyn is the president of Maui High's Math League Club. In HOSA, she recently placed first at the regional and state levels in Pharmacology, and will be attending HOSA's International Leadership Conference in Dallas for the second year in a row. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano, participating in community service projects with her Girl Scout troop, and tutoring students in math. This is Kaitlyn's second year as Maui Math Circle President. As president, Kaitlyn is responsible for organizing and coordinating the Math Circle.
Marielle Cendana, Historian
Ever since elementary school, Marielle has had a passion for fine arts. Throughout the years she has learned to use different mediums of art, loving each and every one, including photography. She spends some of her free time taking pictures on her camera, using a bit of the knowledge she obtained from a photography class. In addition to art, Marielle loves math and science. She has been on Maui High's Science Bowl team since her freshman year, and in her sophomore year she joined Maui High’s Math League Club and Maui High HOSA. As a sophomore in HOSA, she competed in Medical Math, and as a junior she competed in Forensic Medicine, in which she placed first at the state level and qualified to attend this year's International Leadership Conference in Dallas. This is her second year volunteering for Maui Math Circle and her first year as Maui Math Circle Historian. As historian, Marielle is responsible for recording the students through photo and video as they develop and improve their math skills. She also manages the Maui Math Circle Facebook page.
Quinton Wong, Secretary
One of the biggest things growing up for Quinton was his passion for math. He participated in Maui Math Circle in 5th grade, placing 2nd in his grade level in the competition. In middle school, he participated in MathCounts and placed 2nd at the chapter level and was a part of the team that represented Maui at the state level. Quinton has also participated in the AMC 8, in which he scored in the top 5% nationally. Quinton is currently a freshman at Maui High School, and participates in Math League, Interact Club, and Science Bowl. He is also a part of the team that placed 1st in the Hawaii State Ocean Sciences Bowl on Oahu, and will be competing nationally in Colorado. Outside of school Quinton is in Boy Scouts, and serves as an assistant coach to Iao School’s MathCounts team. Quinton has been volunteering with the Maui Math Circle for 3 years, and this is his first leadership position in the organization. As secretary, Quinton is responsible for organizing the parent registration process and editing the website.
Michael Wong, Treasurer
Michael has always been a math person. In 5th grade, he participated in Maui Math Circle and placed 1st in his grade level in the competition. In middle school he participated in MathCounts, and as an 8th grader he placed 1st at the chapter level and 2nd at the state level. He made the four-man Hawaii MathCounts team and competed in MathCounts Nationals in Florida. Michael also participated in the AMC 8, where he scored in the top 5% nationally. Michael is currently a freshman at Maui High School, where he is a member of Math League, Interact Club, and Science Bowl. In Ocean Sciences Bowl, his team placed 1st in the state competition and will be competing nationally in Colorado. Outside of school, Michael is the Senior Patrol Leader of his Boy Scout Troop and an assistant coach of Iao School’s MathCounts team. Michael has volunteered with Maui Math Circle since 6th grade, but this is his first leadership position with the organization. As treasurer, Michael is responsible for keeping track of Maui Math Circle’s expenses.
